KSHAN - A Lamp at Idiya
KSHAN made it to the final rounds of the recently concluded iDiya contest for social ventures conducted by the prestigious Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, from over 120 other contestants nationwide. The contest was a close one and we ourselves were stymied by the sheer amount of social ventures the youth of this wonderful country have come up with, and are proud to be among the top 20 this year.
How does Kshan work?

Kshan encourages people to register as donors from the link provided below. When someone is in need of blood, the patients or their relatives send a request for blood to +91-9323111447. Note that neither the patient nor their relatives have to be registered. When sending a sms, the patient or relatives are required to provide the following details: Patients name, ward number, bed number, medical condition, hospital or blood bank name, blood group, how many bottles or donors and when required, relatives name & contact details. Alternatively, they use our Online Request Blood Form
Once that is done, Kshan sends an SMS to registered donors. Donors happy to volunteer get in touch with these patients directly; visit the blood bank or hospital; get tested and donate blood.
Advantages of using Kshan
- Patients that find donors themselves, either through Kshan or through other sources, save Rs. 750 to Rs. 1,000 per bottle. Thats what blood banks and hospitals would have charged otherwise.
- Kshan uses smart SMS technology to reach out to a large donor base. Since everyone has a cell phone, this method is very effective during emergencies.
- Kshan contacts donors only when there is a specific request for blood or emergency.
- SMS requests are sent to only those donors who live in the same city as the patient and whose blood group matches the requirement.
- Kshan is currently working with student bodies in colleges, corporates, NGO's and social clubs across the country to continuously increase our donor base thereby providing a continuous circle of people who can donate blood.
How does one become a donor?
Register Here as a donor and encourage your friends, colleagues and family to do the same. Whenever a need for blood arises, Kshan sends an SMS to registered donors. Donors happy to volunteer get in touch with these patients directly.
